ET Systems is a major sponsor in the Chaeli Conquers Campaign …Hope In Motion...
Today I had the privilege of riding with Chaeli and Grant on their final training ride in preparation for the 6 hour ride around the peninsula in the Cape Argus Cycle Tour 2013. This is history in the making as it is the first time the organisers of the largest timed cycle race in the world have allowed a buggy towed behind a bicycle to take part in such an event. You can imagine the excitement building with TV interviews, talks, fund raising drives and so on. And yes, ET is part of this initiative. We are a major sponsor and have our brand displayed both on the buggy in which Chaeli sits and on the cycling shirts worn by 200 cyclists who are part of this wonderful initiative.
Chaeli has cerebral palsy and despite this has inspired thousands of people throughout the world. She was awarded the Nobel Laureate for Child Activism, and was asked to speak at the United Nations World Conference on Hope For Children. At the age of ten, Chaeli, with the help of her sister and friends, raised R25 000 for the purchase of a motorised wheel chair and the Chaeli Foundation was born. Chaeli is a remarkable young woman bringing hope to thousands of children with disabilities and support for parents of such children.
Chaeli and Grant shared their experiences in the Chaeli Conquers initiative and Chaeli also shared her life experience as a quadriplegic with our Cape Town staff - a talk which inspired all present.
I have attached a few images of my experience on the road with Chaeli and Grant. You will notice Grant giving Chaeli juice, that her core temperature needs to be monitored all the time, and that special cushions were made to prevent pressure sores. She speaks with some difficulty but still she brings hope to all of us - she just wants to inspire everyone and for her the thrill of the bicycle ride brings joy. Chaeli you are such an inspiration…thank you!
